The older Scottish Soccer League has been around since 1890 and has had a number of different divisions-many different and teams.
Clubs often and much promoted and demoted at the end of the season. In the mid 70s Scottish Soccer league set sebua structure of three divisions - Premier Division, First Division, and Division II. Configuration remained in place until 1994, when Division III added. In 1998 the clubs in the Premier Division decided to follow the example of the success of an English Premier League and form a completely separate league of their own. As with the English Premier League,
A motivating factor for this decision is a money. It was decided that 10 of the top teams from the Premier Division of the SFL will begin to rupture and form a Scottish Premier League.
